IVCT Workshop 3

Prework

• Familiarize yourself with Zoom functions on your device and make sure the app version is up to date!
• Come to class with a cup of tea/coffee/herbal tea/warm drink for the grounding activity!
• One of the activities will require everyone to turn on your camera. Please do try your very best to use a device that will allow you to join with camera, and also make sure that Zoom has permissions to control your camera prior to joining the class!

Practice of Compassion

• Take time in the next month to implement compassion in your daily life. For example:
  • Offer your full attention to someone (spend time, listening, compliment, helping hand, etc..) 
  • Practice self-compassion and tend to your own suffering (breath, reflect, nourish) 
  • Show compassion for our planet (gratitude, plant based diet)
• Note your reflections of these practices in your journal

• Spend some time to practice self havening. Try it:
  • In the morning-with affirmation to affirm your desired feelings for that day
  • In the evening to enhance relaxation, gratitude, and ease into the sleep
  • When you feel overwhelmed to reduce distress with distractions
  • When feeling good to enhance positive state, build resilient landscape
• Review your notes from the self-reflection, and note the steps you need to reach your goals. What are some precepts, or guiding principles, that you can set for yourself in the coming year to reach your goal? Try to implement them in the coming year!

• Practice giving every day and be mindful of how that affects you.
• Journal it on your phone, in your handbook, or mark it on your calendar.
• For each day, please record what you did, how you feel, and where in your body you have the strongest feeling.

Watch the following video on an overview of the Six Paramitas by Brother David Liu, the deputy CEO of Tzu Chi Charity Foundation in Taiwan.

Please note that he uses some alternative translations of the Six Paramitas. For example, he uses “Six Perfections” instead of “Six Paramitas” and “endurance” instead of “patience,” but they refer to the same thing.
